Getting Around
One of the fun things to do is to find different means of transport - or sometimes they find you!
We have found over a 100 different ways to travel, from Scooters, Motorbikes and Minibuses to Ships, Yachts and Wavepiercers. Hot Air Balloon's, DPV’s (Diver Propelled Vehicles), Skis, Steam Trains, the legendary “Bullet Train” or how about an e-mountain bike?
We’ve been hauled around by our animal friends from Arab Horses and the humble Donkey to Elephants, Reindeer and Dog Sleds and yes even the occasional Camel…… Dromedary or Bactrian anyone?

If it’s one thing the Kiwis are good at (apart from rugby and now we have to cricket and to be quiet honest every thing else they try their hand to - male or female, including sailing!) is that they are bloody good pilots, which is just as well when you are sticking a helicopter on the side of a mountain on the equivalent of a sixpence.
Glacier express helicopter ride - snowball fight at the top optional - just don’t hit the helicopter!
Getting the balloon ready for a flight over the Valley of the Kings Egypt, early AM - it’s cold and dark and the process is surprisingly noisy! No wonder the local dogs are barking - the flight - truly spectacular. Egypt in all its splendour.
In engine room - an amazing visceral experience of oil, moving parts and yet more noise

Part of our extensive collection of keys rings - from cars and bikes over the years. Top left to right Honda (VFR750) Alfa Romeo (66 Sprint GT Rally Car) Triumph (Speed 4) Jaguar, Daimler Kawasaki (KMX 125 & KH250) Porsche (Boxter). Sadly all that's left is the key rings! But they were fun to drive and ride!

Snow shoes - Canadian Torpedo Type great for getting around in heavy snow conditions
Model of a reed boat from Lake Titicaca - made in the same was as the full size one.
These use plastic "Chemical drums" for buoyantcy but are otherwise made the same way. They cut the reads to keep the floating island afloat - which is where they live. They use speedboats to get around - these are for the tourists - but nice to the craft still alive.
Cycle Helmet - We have several bikes in the museum collection including Cannondale "Hardtail" Mountain Bike & Road Warrior.
Motorcycle Boots - we have leathers - gloves and a 1990's Red Bull Jacket and well as a Homage Jacket to the 50's and 60's.
Taxi Number plates from London and Belize - where would be without the humble taxi driver. We have been a licenced hackney carriage.
The Modern take of the London Bus - fantastic styling and a homage to the Routemaster - bought up to date.
Another means of getting around the "Greenland" dog sled borrowed from out Polar Section.
Ski Helmet - `always worn one ever since a friend fell asleep (how can you fall asleep skiing?) and hit a tree. Airlifted to hospital.
Closed in 1994 it is now a Ghost Station. You have to walk across the bridge over the Thames now to pick up a tube.

Whiska Bulk Head light as found on ships, tankers and vessels around the globe. These iconic lamps are made of brass.
2008 according to the time stamp - DPV Diver Propelled Vehicle - Red Sea Egypt. Great way to get around the reef, but don't go through the shoal of fish with one.
The TranzAlpine, run by New Zealands KiwiRail between Christchurch, Arthur's Pass and Greymouth on the South Coast. We flew into Christchurch and took the train to Greymouth where we hired a car. Kia's NZ's iconic parrot can be seen in the high mountain passes
Logan Air Scotland - Saab 340 - They fly some amazing routes around the islands including one of the worlds shortest commercial flights 1 minuet 14 seconds - Westray to Papa Westray.
Sri Lanka Elephant Orphanage 2003 - one of the rescue elephants having a bath in the local river. We have driven elephants they are hard to control - and not easy to stop either. The trip on one though the "tank" reservoir and it calling was a memory we will treasure.
No a disappearing sight - Hong Kong Harbour - 1999. Nearly all gone now Sampans and Junks were once common. 24 years later and they have all but disappeared. Slightly blurry - this is from film, digital came later.
Skiing - "snow blades" great way to get around in the mountains. Normally used without poles. All in the Museum collection.
Destination board to London Bridge and Shepards Bush Green, from the iconic Routemaster buss that served Britain and in particular London as the London red bus. Last made in 1968 - they were in use up until 2005. When lit it has that dull glow you'll remember if you were waiting for a bus late on a rainy night.
Helicopter Snow Landing in New Zealands stunning mountains near Mount Cook. Amazingly skilled pilots, and scenery out of this world. New Zealand is one of our favourite countries.
Nazca flight over the atacama desert and the Nazca lines. Turboprop, a bit puke making if the rest of the passengers reaction was to go by. The Nazca lines are amazing but how come they are still here? Nazca city 20 meters tall disappeared under the desert, but the lines 30cm deep remain.
