“"Age is no barrier. It's a limitation you put on your mind”

— Quote Source - Jackie Joyner-Kersee (if only this were true!) - but we get the point. The point we would like to make is that don’t put it off - physically you may not be able to do it later in life, so do it whilst you can. You can do a lot more than you think - and if you have any doubt read Ranulph Finnes book - “fit for life” it is a good inspirational guide and a reminder to use it or loose it. Just remember the older you get the more it hurts when you crash and burn and it takes longer to heal than you might hope - if you ever do. We have personal experiance of this one on numerous occasions.

Helicopter over the mountains South Island - New Zealand. Stunning views - great scenery and a skilful pilot, and yes they are just as noisy on the inside!

Glorious weather - more stunning scenary - New Zealand South Island - helicopter trip up close to the peaks looking for a place to land.

Travelling can be a great way to experience new and exciting sports and adventures, often in totally different environments. It goes without saying the weather and seasons can make a massive difference, for example dingy sailing in Greece would be a lot different to dingy sailing in Hammerfest in Norway in mid winter. It is also worth noting that the seasons are changing and where once you may have been able to ski in Switzerland on the lower slopes - now snow falls are less regular and some resorts are now closed. So so a bit of research first, but don’t believe everything that is on the internet.

Adventures can be mini - like a butterfly park, a micro museum or a local hike, and can get grander and more expansive. Some of out mini adventures have even taken us to other countries, such as crossing over from Argentina to Uruguay on the Buquebus (actually a wave piercing catamaran rather than a bus) to Colonia del Sacramento, a delightful little colonial city in southwestern Uruguay, across the Río de La Plata from Buenos Aires, or crossing into Zambia from Zimbabwe to meet the white rhinos. The point is that don’t let boarders be a boundary you can’t cross. Like all things research it first; we never have and tend to go with the flow, but it has always worked out.

You can also try a new sport, somthing gentle (ish - it can get quiet heated!) like carrum. A board game that snooker is based on, or maybe something more adventurous like mountain biking (e-mountain biking is our new favourite, takes the pressure off the knees), it might be a good time to try tennis, or scuba dive for the first time. Maybe a bit of sports climbing like the crazy 22.5 meter high tower in Durban (closed in 2013), but there are others around. Skidoo (snow mobile), kite surfing or snow boarding - the list is almost endless.
